A MHTP and referral are only necessary if you are accessing psychological therapy under Medicare. Please contact your GP or psychiatrist to discuss and determine eligibility. If you are not accessing services under Medicare, you do not need to provide a MHTP or referral.

The current Medicare rebate per session is $101.55 for a generally registered psychologist. Up to 10 sessions per calendar year are available through Medicare. You will need to provide your MHTP and referral at your first appointment to receive Medicare rebates for attended sessions. Some private insurance may also cover psychology sessions. This depends on your level of cover and can only be claimed for sessions that are not covered by Medicare. Please contact your private insurance to discuss and determine eligibility.

Sessions vary depending on individual needs. Generally, initial sessions involve discussing what brings you to therapy and your goals for treatment. A comprehensive relevant history is obtained. Following this, a treatment plan is developed based on clinical assessment and your needs. The structure of subsequent sessions usually involves working towards achieving your treatment goals using evidence-based psychological interventions tailored to your circumstances.

Katia utilises a range of evidence-based therapies such as psychodynamic psychotherapy, attachment-based therapy, mindfulness-based therapies, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). Recommended therapeutic approaches are based on clinical assessment and tailored to fit your needs. Your perspective, preferences, and comfort with a particular approach are taken into account. Approaches may be adjusted as therapy progresses and in consultation with you.

Session frequency is highly individual and determined together. Some people may attend weekly, whereas others may require less frequent appointments. This may shift throughout the course of treatment depending on clinical assessment and your needs.

Reaching out can often feel overwhelming and may bring up a range of emotions. It is completely natural to feel anxious or unsure about starting therapy. Katia provides a safe, non judgmental space where you are welcome to reach out whenever you feel the time is right for you.

A minimum of 24 hours’ notice is required to cancel or reschedule an appointment. This is to enable others on the waitlist to be offered appointments in a timely manner. Cancellations with less than 24 hours’ notice will incur a full session fee of $230.

Katia offers talk-based therapy for adults. Neurodivergence assessments, reports for court, drug and alcohol services, or mandated counselling services are not offered at this time. Katia is unable to offer therapeutic services under the NDIS, TAC, WorkCover, or similar government-funded initiatives.
